Curriculum Vitae

Jose J. Gonzalez was born in Gijón, Spain, in 1944. He received a PhD in Natural Sciences (dr. rer. nat.) from the University of Kiel, Germany, in 1970 and a PhD in Technology (dr. techn.) from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, in 1978.

Dr. Gonzalez began his academic carrier in the fields of physics and biophysics and he published numerous articles in the topics of quantum physics, statistical mechanics, critical phenomena and polymer physics in the period from 1970 to 1984. From 1984 on, Dr. Gonzalez shifted his interests to information science, particularly system dynamics. Starting with system dynamics models of epidemiology, he developed Interactive Learning Environments (ILE’s) for prevention of epidemics, and worked on design and evaluation of simulation-based ILE’s, instructional design and organizational learning.

Since his appointment to chair of system dynamics at the Faculty of engineering and science of Agder University College in 1999, the research cell (Security and Quality in Organizations) led by Dr Gonzalez has focused on security in organizations (particularly information security), security in critical infrastructures, security culture, learning aspects of security in organizations and, as a more distant goal, the incorporation of security as quality process in organizations.

Dr Gonzalez is co-leader of the Security SIG in the System Dynamics Society and he has lead efforts to establish an international network – Security Dynamics Network – in collaboration with scientists at CERT Coordination Center, Carnegie Mellon University; Sandia National Laboratories, Critical Infrastructures Modeling and Simulation Department; University at Albany, SUNY (Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy); Faculty of technology (TECNUN), University of Navarra, Spain.

Dr Gonzalez has also business experience as co-founder (and member 1988-2002) of Powersim (www.powersim.com), a system dynamics modeling tool.
