ONE - Future Mobile Devies and Services
People communicate to handle their relations to people, things, and services.
Of all the personal electronic devices that people own and use, it is the mobile phone that is always around wherever they are.

Only now can we see the technical pieces falling into place that will change the perception that people have of their mobile “phones”.
High speed, short range communications (Bluetooth, WiFi), longer battery life, faster processors, huge affordable memory, mp3, video, MBMS, 3D graphics, improved Java support, and of course improved cellular data services are now offering reason to rethink our approach to mobile communications.
The “phone” is not a small brother of our powerful PCs anymore with an especially convenient voice and messaging feature.
We need to move on and consider the improving complex task that people have to manage their lives in a rapidly changing world.
Instead we consider a new powerful companion that is key device to interactwith the intermediate local environment, that supports users in their daily tasks.
The priority for a new mental model of a “phone” will not be centered on bridging long distances. Long distance communication, voice, personal messaging will be part but not the center of a new, overall device concept.
The ONE project will define therefore a new device reference model that integrates short and long-range wireless communications as important components of an updated, overall terminal architecture with new services, communication protocols, and applications.
