Bluetooth Walkie Talkie

Bluetooth and WiFi in phones will allow groups of people to stay in touch within 30-100 meters. This could be faimilies, or friends at a shopping center, at a lecture (better not!), or at a public event. The advatage would be that it would be free of cost, independent of operators, and that it allows a GROUP of people to communicate at the same time.

The study requires to specify the necessary system components, selected protocols, proposed terminal implementation strategy, and if time permits: a demonstration of key features

Wifi Peer2Peer File Sharing

File Sharing (BitTorrent, …) is still very popular on wired networks … and often illegal. Many users have ended in deep and expensive trouble with the media industry which wants to protect their intellectual property.

The thesis shall investigate how mobile-2-mobile links based on WiFi technology will on one hand threaten the media industry even more, while on the other hand offering new ways of collaboration in educational or business scenarios.

The thesis shall first outline a number of usage scenarios, evaluate their consequences and practical feasibility. The second part should outline proposed system features and architecture. A possible demonstration of key features could be developed, if time permits.

uPnP Portable Media Player
Ericsson and HiA are investigating solutions that allow us to interconnect mobile phones with services at home. A mobile phone can act as a uPnP (United Plug’n’Play) device that automatically detects media servers at home. Now all family members can listen and browse all music on their phones which they stored on a common PC.

The team has to define the overall concept, system components, and implementation plan. To solve the challenge it will be necessary to develop and evaluate concepts to address, e.g., usage scenarios, overall system and software architecture, selection of a suitable software platform (likely J2ME), communication protocols, handling of multimedia, and overall user interaction.

Forecast system for help desk team leaders (proposed by Siemens)

A call center which consists of several help desk teams. Each help desk team has the responsibility for several costumers which are unique for this team. The enterprise team solves the tasks regular help desk teams not are able to.

Each help desk team (and the enterprise team) has a team leader. The team leader’s responsibility is to make sure that enough people are working and that they are effective. There are also leaders in charge of all the help desk teams.

The project has to propose a solution for helping the team leaders doing their job. The system shall give an easier way to see how effective they are and help to predict the number of employees working on the team (forecasting).
